Q: Macbook - All apps crash constantly even after clean install.

Greetings everyone,

I've had about enough with this persistent problem haunting my macbook. Before I describe my problem let me share some details about myself and the Macbook in question.

1. I rarely use it, mostly for schoolwork and watching streams.

2. It's a late 2008 Aluminum Macbook.

Ok so now on to the problem. About a year ago the computer started to randomly have Plug-in failures within Google Chrome and Safari tabs (mostly tabs using flash or shockwave player for streams from twitch.tv), the failures happened maybe once or twice a day. They started to get progressively worse as time went on (failures happened more often maybe 5-10 times daily). There came a point where I couldnt even finish loading a webpage without getting a plug-in failure. Then the entire browser started to crash with *browser* has quit unnexpectedly and sometimes the computer would restart and give me the standard computer had to restart because of an error message. Now almost every application as well as .dmg install files crash upon start up with the same error, the one thing that all the errors have in common is the exception type and exception codes which are:

Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE

Reformatting is usually a last resort me when it comes to computers because I like to try and diagnose and fix them myself, I have tried to look up these issues before and have been reformatting and clean installing for about 6 months on various different hard drives. I have looked for months all over the internet and I have taken it to Apple (who can't find any hardware issues) looking for a solution to this problem but I have not been able to find it. I have tried a multitude of troubleshooting instructions (which I will list shortly) that have not helped. If anyone might have some information that could help me I would greatly appreciate it. I know some of you are going to tell me to just toss it and get a new computer, that is not a problem, I have another computer. This computer just has alot of sentimental value to me.

Things I have tried

--------------------------------

1. Replaced RAM over three times (PNY, Samsung)

2. Replaced Hard drive over six times all with fresh/clean installs.

3. Made other user accounts to see if the problem still persists.

4. Installed various Operating Systems (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks)

5. Repaired disk and permissions over one hundred times probably lol.

6. Reset NVRAM

7. Countless other suggestions I have found online but its so many that I just cant remember anymore.

I have some crash reports I can post from a couple of different programs (Let me know if you guys want me to post them) but I cant seem to pinpoint any obvious issues. The only thing I can think is the problem is maybe that the RAM seats are bad or something. I've read that kernal protection failures have to do with memory issues. After the computer restarts itself and tells me it had to restart because of an error the crash report for it tells me something like "there might be a memory protection failure" which makes me think its RAM related. I dont know the exact message, when it happens again i'll be sure to save the report. Could this be a bad Logic Board?

It sounds like you're having kernel panics http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742

Copy and paste a recent panic report here, that can help us figure out what's going on. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546?viewlocale=en_US

Your problem is caused by having installed the wrong ram. You have 1333 MHz ram while your MacBook requires 1066 MHz. Put the proper ram in and your panics will likely stop.

Also I'd strongly recommend not using the bargain basement brands that you've used as they often cause panics. Get your ram from either Crucial or OWC.
