HELP!!! Mail - Mavericks - icloud ... help migrating from Windows.

Hello. I am totaly confused about how Mail works, and as I have recently had problems with Windows have decided to stop using it altogether and have started to use icloud.

I have managed a couple of emails so far, with success.

How do I copy the address book in Windows to icloud/contacts?

How do I sort out mail - it is just hit and miss at the moment. Total guesswork.

In fact, can you please advise a Mac mail newbe the best way of setting up the mail - and do I really need both of them?
