My wife's iPad has a lock sign against her Home WIFI and she can only use WIFI through nearby spots. How do I unlock it for her, please? I've tried the turning off and Home button together but t hat doesn't work. TIA.

Sorry, should've also said I've tried the normal method of shutting down the router then rebooting it followed by entering the password but it is always dismissed.

I presume the lock prevents me from entering the WIFI system via her own router? WIFI can be entered via nearby hotspots.

If you cannot access the network then you are entering the wrong password. Check to make absolutely, positively sure that the password is current, accurate, and entered correctly. (0 vs O, l vs 1 etc.).

Note that any router password can be changed by administartive session with the router.

Also check that the router firmware is up to date from the manufacturer's web site and that MAC Address filtering is NOT turned on in the router.

If you are using WEP security, change your router to WPA2 security. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi Alliance as insecure (It can be cracked in seconds).

I'm having no difficulty with my own iPad, using the same password and settings for our Home set-up. Wife's also has the lock icon showing next to the audio and info signs on the WIFI page to keep the privacy. I just cannot understand why I can't get it up and running with our own WIFI setting yet she can use ohers nearby. Each time I try to join the Home network it is shown as 'Dismiss' - just won't be accepted.

The lock is normal. It means you network is secured and requires a password.

The password is case sensitive, enter it together, one of you watching the screen to make sure upper and lower case is correct. Make sure you are entering letter O or number 0

Have you connected mobile devices before?

Is your router a push to connect? (After pushing button you have 2 minutes to enter password and connect)

What happens after you enter password? Does it say, failure to join network?

What router and internet speed do you have?

I find a dual channel, 2.4 and 5 GHZ router connect well. Older single channel and 2.4 GHZ only are very poor at connecting to most mobile devices.

No. Both iPads are newly bought from authentic sources this year.

I can see two other hotspots nearby which can be used by our iPads but which we've endeavoured to avoid all the time but now they both can be used for communication but not my wife's setting.

The messages which came up on the relatives screens (two) could then be seen on MY screen in blue as if I had sent them. My setting is the proper one, padlocked, ostensibly to keep privacy!

Thanks for your interest.

Lol.

The messages your relative and you are seeing is the iMessage program

It connects to other Apple users with phone numbers and email addresses.

You relative is in your contact list as having iMessage so you were connected to them with iMessage

And yes, the message is coming from Apple.

It says something like....

IMessage is using

"User2345@email.xxx"

On iPad

Your problem is not related to other wifi near by if you can see the router and it pops up a password option.

Are you connecting to a home router? Or a mifi or mobile hotspot?

Has she turned airplane mode OFF?

I'll come back to you but in the meantime . . . The messages are short and of a family conversational style, such as "Hiyar. Hello. Are U there? Love from me XXX William."

As mentioned before, they come up on my screen as well, in blue as if I had sent them! Therefore I'm fairly confidnet they are from nearby hotspots.

No I haven't connected mobie devices before. The router is a BT one, can be used with Push to connect or turningoff power, and the broadband is unlimited with VG speed. I have no problem with lower and upper case passwords. After entering a password and waiting the messasge is "Unable to join the network" - (here is the router SSID)

My wifes iPad has a lock sign against it . . .
