Q: Support Document applicable after release of iOS 7.1

Will some enlightened soul throw light:

Is the following Support Doc, link embedded, still Applicable after release of iOS 7.1

If you're not using a partner carrier, you will need to set up the carrier's settings manually. Refer to your carrier for appropriate settings.

Applies to officially unlocked iPhones when being used on a "non-supported" carrier's network that permits editing the APN settings. iPhone iOS already contains the correct APN settings for all supported carriers, & fact is, most carriers do not want users messing with these settings.

Thank you for your detailed response.

Just to explain what prompted me to start this discussion:

    1. I have been reading many posts here that 'services', including data/MMS/Personal Hotspot etc. will be available if iPhone is used on a 'Supported carrier' and poster pointed to Apple Support Doc. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

    2. There is a fair percentage of iPhone users, which includes me, who want to use 'officially unlocked' iPhones on carrier(s) not listed in the Support Doc. in 1. above

    3. There are some recent posts complaining about APN settings not being saved after updating iOS to 7.1. Even though Apple stated in their doc "The settings should save automatically"

And almost all of those complaints are related to this:

iPhone owners who previously made use of the Personal Hotspot feature on wireless networks that do not support it are now out of luck. Changes in iOS 7.1 have disabled the ability to manually edit tethering settings for unauthorized carriers. Appears to have been done at the request of carriers.

    There is no fix.

Thank you again. For my understanding

What would be the difference between "non-supported" and "unauthorized" carriers

A non-supported carrier can still permit Tethering. Unauthorized refers to carriers that don't support Tethering, or don't support such with certain accounts.
