How do I transfer just a playlist without transferring files from one Mac to another?

I have almost one TB of music and videos on an external drive with everything organized in playlists in iTunes on an older MacBook Pro. There are no files on the MacBook itself. Is it possible to transfer just the playlist text from one MacBook to another without having to import files on to the new MacBook? Thanks for your help.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

I don't believe there is nor would it do you much good without also having the actual files in the other iTunes library.

You can try this, but I don't believe it will work:

1. Highlight the playlist.

2. Pull down File > Library > Export Playlist

3. Save it as the format you wish. Plain Text ought to work fine.

4. Move the .txt file to the other computer (via Flashdrive probably).

5. In iTunes pull down File > Library > Import Playlist.
