Do you actually have an Apple TV?

    Is it turned on?

Only the 1st Gen ATV appears in iTunes.

I do have an apple TV and I believe is a 2nd or 3rd generation because it has airplay. WHich is another problem, my macbookpro doesn't connect to airplay. All I want is to project my macbook pro contents to a pc monitor or to a TV, with sound and everything.

    Is it turned on?

Do you see the ATV menu when setting the tv to the appropriate input for the ATV?

It is turned on, or at least plugged in and with a solid white light on. I don't see a power button, so I think all you have to do it to plug it one. When I put it to the appropriate input in the TV, the screen just got black but it didn't showed as ATV neither a menu popped up, and  with the MACbook pro, and with the PC, nothing happened, no menu, no ATV anywhere.

There is the problem... most likely.

First, try changing the resolution to see if the menu displays.

    1. Change the Apple TV resolution:
      • Press and hold the Menu and Up button on your Apple Remote for six seconds.
      • The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals.
      • Press Play on the Apple Remote to keep the current resolution or Select to manually cycle to the next resolution.

If that fails, power cycle the ATV.

If the issue still persists, restore the ATV via iTunes on the computer.  This will require physically connecting the ATV to the computer via a microUSB cable.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I tried the remote , and the ATV light started to flash, but still nothing on the screen.

    - What is power cycle? Is that unplug and replug?

    - As far as the micro USB, the only outputs that I see on the ATV, is for the power cable, HDMI, and for the ehternet cable.

The USB connection is directly below the HDMI port.
