I installed 10.9.2 update and now iCal wont let me edit.

I was prompted to install 10.9.2 update and now iCal wont let me edit an event. I can add an event but it remains New Event until I go onto my iPhone and edit, a real pain as I can't paste details etc.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
