Q: MACOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg..

I found this in my download file.  This is what 'about this mac' shows I have : OSX 10.9.2.  Since this update from Snow Lepopard a few days ago machine loads V E R Y Slow. I did a reset a few mins ago with no change.  Did a diagnostic and repair the day after the update.  Today I found this Support =    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&src=support_site.home.search&local e=en_US&q=MACOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg. It shows several different updates for my Mac Intel.

Is it possible that the wrong update was installed on my machine.  I am so unhappy with the performance of machine since this update.  I finally got the Internet download up to what it hould but the upload is still too slow. Certain websites load way too slow.

You need to make sure all of your applications are compatible with Mavericks. You aren't running Snow Leopard (10.6) anymore, you are on Mavericks (10.9). Download and run etrecheck and post the report here. This will provide us with more information about your system.

If you updated from SL to Mavericks your computer would have been 10.6.8. before the update to Mavericks, did you check the system requirements Mavericks and does you computer meet those.

Running slow can be many things but not enough RAM is quite common.

OK, I have run it and copied it to clipboard but don't know where clip board is. Please tell me where do I go now to get it to you? Can I do a copy/paste? Forgive my ignorance. I have a Mac for 2 years and still don't know jhow to do the simple things I always did with my Windows.

The clipboard is just where something is copied to when you use the copy and paste command, so if it's in the clipboard all you need to do is paste it into a reply. You can right click and choose paste or press cmd+v on the keyboard.

I now do need another RAM of memory but will have to wait on that for a little while. Right now not all of my 3GB is being used just most of it. It is very close. Eventually I will invest in another 4GB memory but I will have save pennies for that. If I can fix the loading problem from Restart for now I will be happier.

RAM does not look too bad at the moment, I have 4GB that runs fine. If Avast is running on access scanning I would disable that and check if the speed increases, I would also check if Spotlight is indexing, either of those would slow the machine down.

Yes, you should increase the RAM, which is pretty cheap. At least upgrade to 4GB and I would recommend getting two identical sticks, for example 2x4GB RAM sticks because the system works better with two identical sticks.

Uninstall Avast and all its components. It should have an uninstaller that you can run. Maybe uninstall the Epson printer utility or at least look and see if there is an update to the software. Also, make sure all 3rd party software is up to date.

How do I tell if Spotlight is indexing? Also I checked Startup Disk and it shows Snow Leopard OS x, 10.9.2.  This is the only disk shown in Startup.

I checked with OWC and they said my machine will run with 1 4GB and 1 2GB sticks. My machine has only 2 slots and factory says uses 4GB total.  OWC has checked my machine model to the max and says it runs really well with 6GB.

If Spotlight is indexing the little magnifying glass on the top right on your menu will have a dot in the middle.

The reason for the confusion of the startup disk is that your Mac partition is named Snow Leopard (this is usually called Macintosh HD, but for some reason yours is named differently), but you are running Mavericks (10.9) OS X.

I can uninstall that with CCleaner can't I? If it runs better without Avast what VirusMalware protection can i use? I don't trust this machine without that protection.  That is how my machine got hacked. It was hacked through facebook. Entered all my hotmail accounts and chased me all through my machine.  It was horrible.
