Q: MACOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg..

I found this in my download file. This is what 'about this mac' shows I have : OSX 10.9.2. Since this update from Snow Lepopard a few days ago machine loads V E R Y Slow. I did a reset a few mins ago with no change. Did a diagnostic and repair the day after the update. Today I found this Support = http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&src=support_site.home.search&local e=en_US&q=MACOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg. It shows several different updates for my Mac Intel.

Is it possible that the wrong update was installed on my machine. I am so unhappy with the performance of machine since this update. I finally got the Internet download up to what it hould but the upload is still too slow. Certain websites load way too slow.

Spotlight is not indexing, no red dot in center. I think can change the name of my partition. Will have to remember where I found that. LOL

If you want to uninstall any software use the uninstaller provided by the software developer.
You should be able to just stop on access scanning as a test though.

I would use the uninstaller that comes with Avast. Avast has some components that go deep into your system and that can only be removed safely with the proper uninstaller. I would highly recommend ClamXav, but wait and see if removing Avast improves performance before adding anything. You can download it from the developer's sight just do a simple google search for it.

Stopping the scanning doesn't remove the kexts that Avast has installed. Kexts are modifications to the OS and are a common cause of problems.

Avast made no difference. The slowness is the loading of the machine from a Restart. Although today it did load a little faster. Perhaps it is getting acclamated to the new Mavericks
