Q: Time Machine freezes and screens are blank.

I recently upgraded my mid-2007 iMac to Mavericks. I determined it was a mistake due to system slowness and hangs.

I'm trying to recover from backup but when using the command-R option for recovery, the systems hangs after I select the drive where Time Machine stores backups. The spinning wheel appears and I get no further.

Additionally, when I boot normally and enter Time Machine, when I roll back in time, the cards which should permit me to select files to restore are solid black. The card for today allows me to select files.

What can I do to recover?

iMac7,1, Mac OS X (10.5)

Are you trying to Revert from Mavericks to the OS you previously had on your Mac ? If so...

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, had you read my original question, you'd see I'm already familiar with the recovery process you linked. It is hanging when I follow these instructions.

Any ideas what to do to resolve the real issue which is Time Machine hanging during recovery?
