So I can see how to edit but I can't see how to have nothing... What if I want no pic? It doesnt seem to allow me to have nothing? Who sees this pic when I use iMessage etc?

Did you scroll down to the bottom of that screen showing the pics you have to choose from? The last square should be empty. Select that for no Profile Pic.

Thanks, but yes I did and although there is a gap I can't click on it - only the tennis ball to the left
Look under Recents. I have a blank head in my Recents....

Well, one other way to do it would be to select Camera, put your thumb or finger over the camera hole, then take the pic. It puts a black "photo" in the frame:

Sure - how odd though that it's making me use a pic of some kind. Who sees this pic?
It is just a quick way to see what account is on there. For people who don't take the time to read the user names. M$ has login pictures as well.
No one....but you or whomever is logged onto the Mac. They just come up when you are initially logging on, and sometimes it is easier to recognize your logon by a picture or avatar. It is just a convenience.

It was just that I can see it on my iMessages on the mac or ipad and I thought others were getting it like on viber. Thanks for all of your replies.
The photo you see for iMessage is from your Contacts photo, not your Mac User ID photo....

AAhhhh.... I dont recall setting up either of these.... It was the same photo which was what threw me. I've now deleted both. So people were seeing this in iMessage then?
They only see whatever image they set up in their own contacts. I have pics set up for most of my contacts - and when I get an iMessage or call from them, that is what I see.
