I downloaded Mavericks not knowing that all of my pictures that I have ever taken would be deleted. What can I do to get my photos back? I should have backed up my computer before the install but I was told it wouldn't delete anything.. I guess I should have backed it up anyway. I need these pictures back!! Please help

Did you download the updated iPhoto app? That is what that error message is telling you. You need the most current version of iPhoto, and it should be waiting to be downloaded in your App Store.

Just a word of caution. In future, any time you do a major upgrade (like Lion to Mavericks is), be sure to back up everything ahead of time. This goes for your iOS devices as well as your Mac. Things can go wrong, and with a backup you are covered, just in case....
