Why did Parallels & Windows 7 disappear after update?

Since the latest update my Parallels and Windows 7 has disappeared. Is there a way to recover them? They were installed when I purchased the computer, upon my request, so I don't have the cd's.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Look in the Application folder, Parallels will probably be there. Most updates unless they change from one version of OS X to a later version do not stop installed software from working.

Note you need to set up a backup routine yourself, either by a Apple Time Capsule or an external disk drive and use Time Machine. There are other ways of doing backups but at least one of those will get you in to safer position.

From the information you have given it does not appear that you have a backup of your computer.

I'm thinking I don't. I checked the folders and they are empty. Is there a chance that these programs were not new that were installed and with the update/upgrade (not sure on that one) that is realized this and wiped them out. I don'e see those items on my itemized invoice. If so, then I need to know where instructions are to install Windows because I need info off my Publisher files. I do have most od them backedup from my previous computer.

Are you able to contact the company that provided the Mac and set it up for you, if you are it may save a lot of time and frustration for you.

However if that is not an option we need to know what update the system performed was. Look in the App Store under the Updates menu, it gives "updates installed during the last 30 days".

I am presuming you accessed Win 7 through Parrallels.

Use Spotlight to search for Parrallels, that may show where it as hidden itself.

The more info you can provide ( don't show any personal info though) may allow somne one on the forum to get you working again.

I've tried reaching the guy that set up my comouter but he appears to have swithced jobs.

I can't find Spotlight. Under the updates it only shows my HP printer update. I think it may have been a system update. My computer has new icons of programs. I'm not sure what most of any on here are anyways. It's been a few years since I've used a Mac and they sure have changed.

I can find Parallels and Windows 7 folders but they are empty. I did access Win 7 through Parallels. Used to I could click on the Windows folders and when I went to open something it triggered Parallels to open. Now when I try it send me to Parallels. I tried the trial version and it wouldn't work. All files are empty.

The Publisher files I had saved are all grayed out not.

Just noticed in one of your posts "I tried the trial version and it wouldn't work. All files are empty."

When you install Parrallels it does not install Windows 7, you need to install Parrallels then use Parralles to install Windows 7, it then runs within the Parrallels application.

So if you decide that is was Parrallels that was on you computer it looks likely that you will need to purchase both Parrallels and Windows 7.

If it was Bootcamp you used hopefully it may still be on your computer.
