Stikies note can't be permanently discarded

I don't have to restart my Mac very often, but I recently discovered that a stickie note that I discarded before restarting keeps reappearing every time I restart the Mac. Surely this isn't normal behavior for this application. (Stickies is a Login item in my system.)
