Q: I really want to use internet service in my iPad with iPhone via BLUETOOTH TETHERING!

Hello, All!

Recently, I had upgrade from iOS7.0.4 to iOS7.1. After doing that, my iPad has been a problem to use internet via bluetooth tethering with my iPhone.

(My iPhone still stays in iOS7.0.4 and I won't upgrade until clear this issue.)

Every settings looks no problem by steps as below.

1. Turn on iPhone's Hotspot by bluetooth -> O.K

2. Making a bluetooth paring between iPad and iPhone -> O.K

     - iPhone displays a sign that One device is coneected for hot spot

     - iPad displays double rings on status bar which means a bluetooth connection as I know.

But I can't use SAFARI for internet on iPad. Why?

There was no error message on those.

If there is something wrong, I believe that iOS should make a error message. But it wasn't never.

One clear thing, I had no problem with iOS7.0.4.

(I really want to return my device to iOS7.0.4 if I can!)

Is there anybody can help me?

iPad, iOS 7.1, bluetooth

I can't read 3rd link for your comments. When I click it, I only found "410 gone" message.

Please give me a correct link.

Anyway, I really want to know that iOS7.1 supports bluetooth tethering(Personal Hotspot via bluetooth) or not!

If iOS7.1 doesn't support this any more, I'll give up.

But if it isn't, I'll do try everything.

Bluetooth tethering is absolutely usefull for saving battery on iPhone.

I can make Hotspot connection via Wifi. But it makes iPhone's going down battery much faster than using bluetooth.

Oh, my iPad is A1430, 3rd generation.

Thanks your immediate answer! But... ^^

    Dear Apple!

I just return from Apple authorized service ceneter. I'm live in Korea.

They did do someting on my iPad3 and the result was the same. No more progress.

They explain me they did factory reset and have a bluetooth tethering test with their iPhone.

"Bluetooth connection looks OK. But iPad made a message that iPad doesn't make connection with internet service" Some engineer told me that it might be a hardware problem.

But I believe it is NOT. Because every other bluetooth functions are OK like a headset, keyboard.

    Here is a current status.

My iPad is 3rd generation with cellular features.

I don't have any USIM for iPad now.

So my iPad only works as a Wifi only model.

After upgrading from 7.0.4 to 7.1, iPad stops bluetooth tethering function.

Anyone who has advices for above, please let me know.

I too have the same problem I have ipad 4 updated to 7.1 and trying to do bluetooth tether from android phone. It connects to ipad without any problem and also shows the bluetooth link icon on top left corner. However there is no internet connection. Safari won't open any page, same with App Store. Are we missing some setting?

I belive that hotspot sharing is only possible via wireless not bluetooth, Apple limits the Bluetooth libraries to support keyboard and audio only not to proxy the IP for internet usage.

The wireless option does work well though.

Even I had tests with Wifi only iPad in some apple store.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a test with iPad 3 or 4. (Certainly, they display recent models for sale.)

But iPad air and iPad mini always work bluetooth tethering perfectly with my android phone.

So basically, iOS7.1 supports bluetooth tethering. That is my conclusion!

But some reason, cellular iPad without sim card doesn't support bluetooth tethering.

And it has been NOT a problem until iOS 7.0.4 as my experience.

I really regret to upgrade iOS....

    Thanks for your idea.

But I pretty confused your idea. Bacause my android phone has no problem with Wifi version iPad. And service engineer agreed with my opinion.

But your idea is adding some setting on my phone, not for iPad.

Will you explain me your setting information in detail?

I bought a SIM card to work cellular function. My iPad work perfectly with cellular network.

But bluetooth tethering had the same problem. (Bluetooth pairing was perfect. Double rings appeared left top side.

But no interet service with my phone.)

So my conclusion is that iOS7.1 in cellular iPad doesn't support bluetooth tethering.

But I have one question. If my idea is right, why APPLE disables bluetooth paring itself?

And even more, an engineer in APPLE authoized service center doesn't know about this.

Anything OK! Because I'm just an one of users in this world.

But I want to understand the specification of iOS7.1 about bluetooth paring.

    APPLE......

    I just tried this.

    Ipad - turned WiFi off

    iPhone - turned hotspot on

iPad - on bluetooth settings list - paired with iPhone - ok

Ipad - has the two circles, wifi is off - Safari access the www ok

Just to say - it is working for me.

    Bam

Thanks for your test and advice.

Which iPad do you have a test Cellular+Wifi iPad or Wifi only iPad?

My iPad is Cellular+Wifi version. Problem happens on this!

I also had a test with Wifi only iPad in a APPLE store, They always display a set of iPad for sales.

And Wifi only version works always fine for bluetooth tethering with my phone.

For the cost of data plan, I decided to use Cellular+Wifi iPad as Wifi only iPad. (Just removing a sim card)

Sharing data plan of my phone is more beneficial for me.

And using bluetooh tethering is more useful than wifi for phone's battery power saving.

That's all.... But after upgrading iOS7.0.4 to iOS7.1, things were changed.

Considering bluetooth tethering, Cellular+Wifi iPad works differently from Wifi only iPad on iOS7.1.

But they work as the same way on iOS7.0.4

My iPad is wifi only- no cellular. I usually use iPhone hotspot via wifi, but as I said, Bluetooth also works.

    Bam.
