Q: Wireless printer woes
Folks, I am having persistent trouble with my wireless printer. It intermittently fails to connect to my MacBook Air. I am regularly having to cold boot it and the MBA to print or scan.
I have OSX 10.9.2 and the printer is a Brother MFC-J4510DW. The router is a BT HomeHub 2. I have the latest printer driver. I have to cold-boot the printer and the MBA and reset the printer wireless link to the router almost every time I come to use it. I have deleted and reinstalled the printer driver on the MBA. I've even tried cold booting the router. The wireless level indicator shows up on the printer and on the MBA. I have no trouble connecting to the internet but I can't see the printer in the Finder sidebar, even though I can see the other laptops in my house.
I have always had trouble with printers (Is it me?). I've used HPs, Epsons and Brothers with different Mac Laptops and they all give me wireless connection trouble. I have scoured the internet for advice and tried many "solutions". None of them has solved the issue. I even tried a CUPS default suggestion but all I got was a message that said the web interface was disabled! It can't be, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this message. I'm been at my wit's end so long he's starting to complain!
Surely there must be a way of making printers work every time without this song and dance routine every time. I wonder if anyone has any ideas?
with hope, Piers
