Why won't my Sims3 content show up in game?

I have downloaded tons of Sims3 content from The Sims Resource (TSR) and I desperately want it to work while I am playing the game. I dont understand what the issue is because the content shows itself in the "Installed" part of the Sims launcher. But for some reason when I actually play the game I can't find the content anywhere. It would be amazing if someone could help me figure out how to get the content to show up. I have followed the instructions listed on the TSR website to the best of my understanding but obviously I am doing something wrong because none of the content is working.
