Windows inserts in emails sent from IMac

When I send an email to someone with a non Apple computer, the text of the email intermittently will have interjections of:(WINDOWS-1252?). I have found info to help with issues with attachments but nothing to help to see if this can be remedied. Can anyone help with this issue? Thanks

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Here is a bit of the text I copied from the email that was received from me:

Know Tom and Sue do way too much, too, and are also stressed with [WINDOWS-
1252?]Ann’s eyes, [WINDOWS-1252?]Eve’s college choices, getting ready for graduation
not to mention they both work.
Seems like the Window 1252 just pops in randomly in the text. Thanks!
