I run MacBook Pro mid 2009 updated to osx 10.8.1

Is this what they call maverick?

MacOS X 10.8.1 is called Mountain Lion. Mavericks is the newest OS version, 10.9. or later.

Could you update your Mac to a newer version of Mt. Lion (10.8.2)? Then you can upgrade Aperture to version 3.4.5, the latest Mountain Lion compatible version - the download link is here:

Aperture 3.4.5

For your current system version you could update to Aperture 3.3, download from here: Aperture 3.3.2

And as Kirby pointed out - the upgrade from Mountain Lion to Mavericks is free - with Mavericks you could upgrade to the latest Aperture version 3.5.1., directly from the AppStore.

Just a caution, the update will have to convert your Aperture library to a new format. Don't upgrade without making sure your backup of the Aperture library is current. And the upgrade may temporarily need additional disk space. So check the available disk space before upgrading. Also, don't interrupt the upgrade of the library, it may take hours, even if you do not see any apparent progress.

My computer won't let me reload aperture . So I can't upgrade it. It says it is not compatible with OSX 10.8 which is by the way, not 10.9. Not maverick.

I photo gave me problems when it upgraded to the latest version. It would not accept photos I had saved on my external 500 GB flash drive because they were from the old version.

All this is very confusing. I also have the memory application problems. If you look on the boards thousands are having the same problems and cannot find the solution.

Please check out my other posts for further updated info.

I am talking to you on my iPad Air because I cant use the boards on the MacBook because of no application memory.

I can't even access your link.

I can't upgrade Aperture because it won't allow me now to open the older version at all. It has a circle with a slash through it. It is like it is grandfathered in but if I lose it like I did, it won't allow me upgrade.

You do not need to open Aperture to be able to update it. You bought Aperture from the AppStore, right? The price $70 suggests it. Or did you buy the boxed reatil vesion? What is your curent Aperture version?

To be able to update Aperture it needs to be installed in the "Applications" folder. Have you moved it?
