How to open older iMovie projects in OS X Mavericks

I have many old iMovie projects on an external hard drive. The iMovie projects I have range from the following extensions: ".imovieproj", ".imovieproject" and ".imovie2project" (some of the projects date back to 2000). I have been reading several other posts around this issue, but want to keep digging deeper. I am going to try to get a copy of iLife '11 to get iMovie 11 which will hopefully save some of the projects, but the Apple representative told me that my iMovie 2 projects were not recoverable. Any help on how I can recover these iMovie project files would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Sorry, but iMovie 11 is not backwards compatible to the ancient version 2 of iMovie. No version above iMovie 6 can read them.
