IPhone 4s crashes in 7.1 when trying to view photo from camera

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:

1. Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2. If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
3. If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.

I have exactly the same symptoms as the original poster. The standard trouble shooting steps serve to get the phone restarted, but when I try to view a newly taken photo, it locks up again. I haven't yet taken the nuclear option of restoring the entire phone.

I have the same issue on both my iPhone 4s and my mother's iPhone 4s.

I have the same thing on my iPhone 4s and so does my wife. I have had a new phone recently due to a speaker issue and still get the same problem. I have performed restores too.

Obviously a bug in iOS 7, will Apple do anything about it??

It's not a bug in iOS 7 or everyone else would have the same problem. Have you tried restoring as a new device? It could be a problem with your backup file or with one of your apps.

Like I said in my post I have already done restores and this is on 2 different iphones with different apps installed.

Hi, yes tried both a restore from backup and restore as new. I did it via iTunes which downloads the software a fresh rather than on the phone too, so I knew it would get a new build.

So how do you know the same thing happens then? You took a new picture, and when you tried to view the new picture, it crashed?

If it were my phone and this happened after a restore as new, I would take it to the Apple Store for evaluation (be sure to make an appointment first).

I have exactly the same problem. I would bet it happens on EVERY 4s running 7.0 or 7.1 - every time - and I would bet it is a function of running out of ram, since 5 doesn't have this problem and 5 has twice as much ram. IOS 7 keeps a lot of stuff running in Ram. So - it is most likely an uncaught executive exception, and only the software developers have any chance of fixing it.

You would lose that bet. It didn't happen on my old 4S, which I gave to my friend for Christmas. The photo app worked perfectly on that phone.

Forgot to mention - it happens ONLY when choosing the camera while in locked out mode. Works fine when the camera is unlocked.

My wife and I both have a Verizon 4s (16g and 64g), and we're both experiencing this problem, but only since the iOS 7.1.2 update. That's probably when the bug was introduced; I never had that problem before.
