I have the same problem, and show the same screen when my Pages program--regrettably--automatically updated. I had auto updates disabled on the iphone, but sadly not on the iPad. I have now disabled auto update, and belatedly turned on the iCloud function.

So, the reboot and the elimination of my documents also happened on 30 March. Yesterday 31 March I took it to the Genius Bar and was told that this was a beta version of Pages, and that all the bugs were not yet fixed. Why I wonder release a beta version that eats documents? Since it was new to the Genius, he also could not tell me the meaning of the same images you show above. However, if I remove Pages and re-install, it would eliminate any possibility of getting my documents back. It also happened to my Numbers program. Some angel told me not to back up the iPad, which still has my old spreadsheets, so I emailed them to myself on my work computer and so I have those if that data disappears.

Unfortunately, the iTunes backup--with the downloaded most current version--takes me back to January 2014, and not 25 March the last time I backed up with all my documents intact.

I'm looking for anyone at Apple to explain this to us and suggest a possible solution.

Almost a year on from the original post from asdansbacktonature , there appears to be no posted resolution to this problem.

I recently updated my iPad2 iOS from its original 4.? to 8.1.3. Numbers was also updated to version 2.5.2. Now I cannot load any of my spreadsheets. All have become invalid files". Each spreadsheet now comprises two files: buildVersionHistory and index

How can I recover these spreadsheets to their former glory?

I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with Numbers. I have been using spreadsheets professionally for over 30-years, from SuperCalc on CP/M computers in the eary 1980's, through MultiPlan, Lotus 1-2-3, StarOffice/OpenOffice Calc and just about every version of Excel on PC's.

Numbers (on iPad) is little more than a toy. It is very pretty but frustratingly difficult to use particularly when entering complex formulae or customising data graphs (and I'm not talking about simplistic sales charts). This latest corruption of my spreadsheet files is just about the last straw. Why the program appears not to be backwardly compatible with its own data files beggars belief.

Does anyone have a solution to this issue?
