MacBook Air
Probably not. Apple views BlueTooth as a conduit for connecting peripherals such as keyboards and mice, not for mass transfering data. See this article for ways to transfer pictures from an Android phone to the Mac.
What about AirDrop?

Air drop is only supported from Mac OS X > Mac OS X and from iOS > iOS.
I know but you said Apple doesn't use it for File Transfer.
Actually I did not.
Aside from that, I doubt that a file transfer app which isn't even supported between Mac OS and iOS would be supported with an Android phone.
Oopos wrong person. Hahaha. I was trying to reply to dwb. Sorry about that.

It worked for me. I have an Android (note 4) and a macbook pro, and Android File transfer didn't work for me. Bluetooth works (for me) only if I shut off wifi on my phone (I also shut off data, just in case) and it works. Haven't had any problems yet.
Thanks BCGal. This it worked for me as well. Had to go into Sharing, then Bluetooth Sharing to set a default folder for the incoming files. Only worked with wifi was turn off.
