Expand Time Capsule storage size with external HDD

I have an old Time Capsule with 500 Gb HDD space, which is not enough anymore. Can I simply buy an external USB HDD attach it to the TC and do the backup on that ? Would it be possible to backup on both HDDs, the TC one and the USB one ?

Thanks.

You can plug a hard disk into the TC.. no problems.. but you cannot extend the internal drive.. it will always have two separate drives.. but you can split the load for some computers to back up to the internal disk and some to backup to the external.

Warning.. Gen1 TC unless substantially repaired is on its last legs.. even the small load of adding USB can put it over the top.. always use a powered hub.. and be sure it will die anyway sometime fairly soon.
