So, the default search engine on my mother's iPhone 4 has been changed from Google to Yahoo. She doesn't really care that it's been changed, but just out of curiosity, how do you change it back? And how was it changed? The phone hasn't been jailbroken so I'm wondering what happened.

Anything is possible, but to change it back go to Settings>Safari>Search Engine, and select the one you want.

Doubtful this changed by itself. There was likely a prompt when visiting Yahoo's website to change the default search engine to Yahoo that was selected - unless she has never visited Yahoo's website or didn't select a link that took her there.
Ah, that would be it -- she uses Yahoo frequently and she is hardly tech-savvy, so she probably clicked it without knowing what it meant! Thank you!! 😀
