iMac
Can you select Restart from the menu bar?
Yes I can
Since posting I was able to restart and press Shift to bring into safe mode
I cannot get back to normal - when I turn off and on again it goes back to utilities
Try starting up holding only the Alt (option) key and then in the Startup Manager select your Macintosh HD to startup from.
It brings up the two options but clicking on arrow still brings to Utilities
There is still as keeps returning to Mac OS X utllities
Hummm.. Utilities in Recovery Mode or Disk Utility in OS X, that is what I am not sure of...?
Are you in normal OS X if you Force Quit or Quit utilities from the Apple Drop Down Menu..?
If so, then perhaps Disk Utility is set to startup at login. For that, go to: Apple > System Preferences > Users & Groups > select the Login Items tab and remore Disk Utility from the "These items will open automatically when you log in" list.
