100 % CPU usage during Podcast update - freezes Windows

Recently noticed that whenever I hit the Update button for podcasts Itunes CPU usage goes up to 100% and freezes Windows for approximately 20-30 seconds. CPU usage is at about 0% when actual downloading occurs. However, I noticed last night that when the automatic once a day podcast download occurs, CPU usage is normal normal during the update part and the computer doesn't freeze up. Anyone know what's going on?

I have suffered from this problem for so many releases I have lost count. This happens on a multitude of XP machines I have tried...

I have just downloaded version 7 of iTunes and the update (of 35 podcasts) never pushed the CPU above 57% (while also playing a tune).

I believe this version has finally addresed this wide ranging problem.

Cheers,
