iMac updating problem

has anyone had trouble upsating from snow leopard to mavericks? I am looking at a mac from work and it ha problems updating from snow leopard to lion and I want to know if anyone else had this problem and did the update to mavericks work?

If this could be answered quickly as I have to decide by tomorrow
