cannot find backup drive for library backup - error message

I continue to receive a pop-up warning in FCP X that says it cannot find the portable drive to which the library backups are being saved. There is no apparent reason for this message. Glitch or valid warning?

When do you get this message?

Does your computer see the portable?

It appears randomly, generally while I am working on some operation, e.g., editing.

If I click into "Preferences," the drive is listed as the backup drive. Moreover, it appears that the library and projects are being backed up to the drive.
