Specs: 15 inch Macbook Pro, Intel Core i5, running Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2)
I'm currently learning AJAX through an online course. I'm using MySQL Workbench + Apple's ODBC Admin. The problem is I can't test any of the class exercises because MySQL ODBC connector fails to install when its gets to the "Verifying file" stage.
Can anyone tell me why this is?

The ODBC Admin tools you're trying to install require OS X 10.6 — 10.6 was the last version of OS X Server that shipped with MySQL. You're on OS X (client) 10.9, and probably also using the Oracle distribution of MySQL.
If you haven't already, you'll want to install Oracle MySQL from the tools available at the MySQL web site. This may involve disabling or removing the Apple pieces (as I'd suspect those are too old to work right), or might possibly be rolling in backups from prior to the installation of the tools.
The problem is not with Apple, but with Oracle: last MySQL ODBC Connector installer avaliable at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/ is for Lion. It seems that Oracle doesn't have plans to release updates. It seems that Actual ODBC drivers are only game in town now for ODBC Connectivity to MySQL on Mac.

This is with both Apache and MySQL running, and just using Actual ODBC Manager. My DSN and Driver settings were already in the Actual ODBC Manager:

The Call to undefined function odbc_connect() is a fairly common error within php applications trying to use ODBC; there are various discussions of this diagnostic posted around the 'net. One trigger can be missing ODBC support within php. MAMP might be an alternative to rebuilding php, if that's what's wrong here. (MAMP traditionally contains a number of additions within its php implementation, though I don't know off-hand if MAMP has the ODBC bits.)
This is not ODBC driver related issue, probably PHP one. I know that you are going through course material, but I don't see why would anyone use ODBC form connecting to MySQL from PHP when that can be done using native drivers.
