Q: Multiple iMessage windows with group chat

So my mother in law, my sister in law, and my self all chat in group chat on iMessage. However, for some reason, we create new windows. So even though I didnt physically go through and open a whole new text window, when one of them write me, a whole new text tab opens up. We have tried figuring out the problem, and I think its because they have too many emails associated with iMessage. I noticed that in each group chat, it will say that its being sent from one of their emails on the one chat, and in a different chat it shows a different email. What is the best way to resolve this problem with multiple chat windows opening when we respond to each other?

    Hello Sarah,

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your group message you share with your mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

It may be that they have their iMessages set up to send new messages from another Apple ID or phone number than the one you are originally sending the message too.

You can change the address that new iMessage conversations are started with in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from. Note that this setting applies only to new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change this setting, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.

iMessage responses will be sent from the address the recipient most recently messaged. For example, a friend sends you a message to your Apple ID. Responses in this conversation will be sent from your Apple ID, even if you've selected new conversations to start from your phone number.

I recommend having each person check “Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from” and verify that you are each sending messages to the Apple ID or number checked in that section.
