Home sharing not showing up

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 13" OS X Version 10.9.2 and Windows 7 Dell. I mainly download songs with my windows and copy it to the one in MacBook. I was able to do that for a while but for some reasons 'Shared' does not show up on my itunes in MacBook anymore, although both itunes on book computers are open with home sharing turned on and 'share my library on my local network' being ticked. I have tried turing home sharing on and off, restarting both computers, closing and reoppening itunes, and even uninstalling and installing itunes on my windows, yet 'Shared' still does not show up on the itunes in MacBook.

Are there any solutions to this problem and please help me out. Thanks 🙂

Hi Matt00,

Thanks for your reply and link to the troubleshooting home sharing page. I checked all the steps listed in the page yet home sharing on my mac is still not showing up. To give further information, I have only one router and one wifi network and none of my devices are using VPN. As stated in my previous post, I have quitted and reopened itunes on both of my devices (step 6), restarted my router (step 7) while both my devices are on (step 8). I also turned off my firewall on my mac. However, the problem still persists and home sharing (my mac itunes name) only appear on my windows but not on my mac. I also attched a screenshot on my mac itunes to give you better insight into the problem. Once again thanks for your reply and please suggest what other solutions i could do.

I have finally solved the home sharing not appearing on my mac itunes problem. After hours of scrolling through forums and forums, I stomped upon a post about requiring the network to be the same for both computers. I checked with McAfee network preferences and found that it is set to Public whereas network on my windows is set to work. I just changed the network to home and home sharing appeared instantly on itunes. It is successfully syncing between my devices now.🙂

This problem seems to be all over the web and forums in different forms. I have spent many hours (days!) trying to fix this. I followed your note and it restored the icon for sharing to iTunes immediately. Many thanks. I assumed that the network must be the same for all my devices since they were on the same LAN/WLAN, did not realise that public/Private settings made any difference and not sure why it had changed. Spread the word!!
