I have a old macbook and it runs OS X 10.8.6 and I never made a password for it, because when I tried to change it it said put in old password and I never made one. I can't install new programs and its getting fustrating. My optical drive doesn't work and when I tried to do it in the command menu and hit reboot it frooze and never started up properly. Someone please HELP ME!

Do you have access to another Mac? You can try connecting the two Macs in Target Disk Mode.

If that works you can use the optical drive in the second Mac to geet to the hard drive on the first one.
By the way, there has to be a password. It may still be the original one.

You said it is an old MB, so I assumed 10.8.6 was a typo, particularly since your profile says 10.6.8.
If it is 10.8, not 10.6, you should try the steps in the links dalstott has posted.
Its a 10.6 that's what it says when I go to about this macbook.
And? What have you tried since your first post a week ago?
I've tried Dalstott's method, and the original method with control S at the point of it booting up and entering in the commands, and when I did I saw this message...
eDSRecordNotFound.
I'm not sure what that means.
