"Ghost Applications" Taking Up Memory

I recently got a 16GB iPhone 5S running iOS 7.1 and have had it for about 5 days. As I have been installing and deleting apps, I have noticed a pattern. Whenever I download an app, it subtracts the size of the app from the available memory as it should. When I delete the app, it removes all information about the app, but sometimes instead of freeing up space, the available space remains the same except it is taken up by more data classified as "other." Is anyone else having this problem? This all may just be a coincidence, but all I know is that I have over 3GB of memory taken up by "other" that built up over 5 days even though I have only like 30 pictures. Is there something I should do to fix it?

OTHER DATA

Other data on your device should only be about 1.5GB and larger than this may indicate corrupt data.

To get rid of it you need to restore not from a backup.
