i cannot open my mail and i cannot close mail. everything else seems to be working. how can i either open of close it?

I am unable to open mail and cannot close it either. I tried command q and that does not work. Everything else on the computer is working fine. any suggestions?

iPhone 4S, Windows XP Pro

Have you force quit ?

Select Apple logo on menu bar and select force quit then select mail from the box that appears on screen.and force quit mail
