Battery question

I have a new macbook pro retina 13.3 and I went in vacations for a weekend and I left my laptop with 58% of battery charge but when I returned the battery was in 7%, is it normal?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

There are several things that could be going on; usually a drain on the

battery when the portable is not in use, or expected to be Off, should

be checked into. As newer power settings in Mavericks, can help keep

a battery in good form over a longer life span, the computer should not

be power napping or sleeping when you are gone for several days

and it is expected to not be using the battery. Yet they suggest the Mac

Book/Pro could last 30 days in a standby mode. I haven't checked that.

However if you are going to store the computer for a long period of

time in an unused 'storage' situation, the battery should not be in

a state of charge higher than about 50%, since this can cause an

issue later when you try to use the battery to a full extent. Also,

be sure to not fully deplete the battery in use, since that can also

damage the cells, and limit the life of the battery. Try to recharge the

battery in shorter increments and not draw it down near zero.

Keep in mind, these cells have a limited life but can be longer with care.

And they do not have much of a shelf life. A new battery can last maybe

a year or two (in package) so buying them ahead is like buying produce.

When there is an issue in the proper cycle & charge of the battery, it may

take more than one charge cycle for it to stabilize. However the newer

battery and charger technologies (plus OS X 10.9.2 power management)

make the need to "calibrate" these cells unnecessary.

If you have an issue with a newer computer, one under AppleCare or

the extended optional coverage past the initial first year, contact Apple

or a retail Apple Store, or an independent Apple affiliate for advise.

You could call Apple Support or use their link to ask a question directly.

If you are where an Apple Store has a Genius bar, call ahead to set an

appointment and they can check the MB/Pro for you, free; and answer

questions about your experiences and concerns.

Also, MacBook/Pro section at Support has links to most of their database.
