I have the big red x on the screen of my 160 GB Ipod classic, I didnt do anything to it it just kind of happened. what can I do?

I took my Ipod out of my pocket and it was stuck on fast forward and I reset it and when it came back on I got the big red x and the support page isnt helping. Any suggestions?

The most common cause for this is a faulty hard drive.


Try doing a Reset as describe here

If it gets back to that same screen, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes on your computer and connect the iPod. iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore. This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.


If it does not go into Disk Mode, or the Restore fails, the likely cause is a faulty hard drive.
