Disappearing folders
Before upgrading to Mavericks from 10.6.8 I had most of my files organized into folders in the Macintosh HD folder. Now all I have is a long list of files and no folders that I can find. Do they still exist?

Hopefully you know the name of the folders or at least partial name.
You can search using Spotlight.
Click the Spotlight icon, (magnifying glass icon) top right in your screen.

Are you looking in the "All My Files" section of the Finder sidebar? That is best avoided IMO.
If that is the case open the main hard disk from the Finder's Go menu > Computer. You should be able to browse Macintosh HD & see the folders as they were before.
Thanks for the help. The problem with Spotlight now is that it does not tell you where the folders are.
Finder/View/Show Path Bar.
