Can you help me with a question regarding my pages document.
I used this document this afternoon. But I cannot open it tonight. When I clicked it, it just indicate “pages cannot be opened”.
The other pages documents can be opened.

Peter, I opened a filed which may be created by dropbox this afternoon. But I did not do anything on that document. Is this information helpful? Could you help me with this problem. This document is the class note of my whole spring semester.
Pages 5 has an oddball zipped package file format, that only Apple seems to understand and support.
All 3rd party server software such as GMail, Amazon, Google and DropBox don't understand it and can either reject it or damage it.
Once the damage is done, the internal xml structure seems to be unconnected, and except for looking at the rough hexadecimal text content, only the images are usually resuscable.
iCloud does a great job of then synching and overwriting all your good copies.
If you have tried all the usual attempts to open it, I suggest looking for a backup copy, say in Time Machine.
That's it. Well there is the commonsense approach: avoid Pages 5 at all costs.
Pages 5 is an undeclared public beta.

It seems that I did not do the backup in Time Machine....
If you want to set up Time Machine OSX will ask you whenever you plug in an external Hard Drive if you want to use it with Time Machine.

Hi Peter, I did not do the backup before. If I do it now, can I have a chance to open the file? If this does not work, can I say there is no way to restore the file?
If it is damaged that is it.
Time Machine is for the future.
But the best protection for the future is to not use Pages 5.
Use either Pages '09 or investigate alternatives like LibreOffice (free)

I am experiencing the same issue. I have given up on Pages entirely and have gone back to Microsoft Word. My issue is I have proposals for client work written in Pages that I cannot access and change. Hello APPLE? Are you hearing this? I store all my files via DropBox. I backup via CrashPlan. I restored my backup of the file and it still will not open. I can view it in Preview. I have lost MANY documents because of this issue. Is there any other options to get these to open? A stand alone Pages to Word converter?
