Hi all , I removed the built in dictionary on my iPad mini . I did it when I was looking at a definition of a word and I chose define and then in Manage, I chose the x mark I front of the Oxford Dictionary and Apple dictionary and the first two dictionaries got uninstalled. Now I want the Apple dictionary and the new Oxford American dictionary back, but it only has a circle mark in front of it and I cannot download it again. Please help me. Thanks in advance!
Hold your finger on a word. Tap select.Tap define. Tap manage. Tap the cloud after the dictionary. Tap the top of the list twice to save.

Is it a big blue circle ? If so that means the download is stuck. Try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own.
Yes, that's the big blue circle! I just tried a reset and it didn't work :( still the same blue circle:(

Not trying to butt in but I am trying to get the definition for a word using your steps above Here is what I did:
1. Tap the word and selected define
2. Received a window stating no definition, selected Manage
3, selected Apple Dictionary and clicked the cloud after Apple Dict
4Apple Dict jumped to the top of list with an'x' encased in a circle
5. I think your next recommendation was to tap the top of the list twice to save. Am I tapping on Apple Dict?
I assume I am saving the Dictionary App? Do I then re-tap the word to get the definition?
At the top of the list of dictionaries should be the word you first tapped to start the process with a left facing arrow. Tap there. Next should be the word dictionary, tap it. Now you should be looking at a definition of the word. Tap anywhere on the screen to make it go away. Yes and yes to to your last two questions.
Having any luck ? Also I found The Oxford American Dictionary to be preferable to the Apple Dictionary.
Did tapping the circle help ?

I tapped on both the arrow and the word and it reverted to the "No definition found screen". With the Manage and web buttons.

Try deleting the Apple dictionary and installing the Oxford American English dictionary, it should work better.

Re: the Oxford Dictionary. Right now the Manage is looking to load the Apple Dictionary. Would I click the circled X to cancel the Apple Dict. Load and then click the cloud next to the Oxford to load that Dictionary?

Yes. I don't think the Apple dictionary works.
If it did load and it's working you can stay with the Apple dictionary. After you add the new dictionary, then tap the top of the list twice, you have to tap outside of the no definition found icon to make it disappear. Then you should be good to go.

The tapping didn't work. For me both Apple dictionary and American Oxford Dictionary has blue circle after them. Any suggestions?
