How to keep photo filters?
I take pictures with my iPhone using the filters provided by the iPhone.
But when I import these photos in iPhoto I loose all filters. How can I keep the same filters?

using icloud and photostreaming I don't want to update all of my pics on the telephone, it would fill up in no time!
The photo stream does not work over a cellular connection anyway - it requires a Wi-Fi connection.
I tried to update iphoto but i didn't manage,
With MacOS X 10.7.5, that is the last version of iPhoto you can update to.
and I tried again importing pictures and it still doesn't reconise the filters from the camera in the iphone
But there is one problem: The filters you are setting in the camera are added losslessly - they are just a tag. The newest iPhoto version recognizes this tag and can apply the filters, but your version does not yet understand this tag.
Do you have iPhoto on your iPhone? Try to use iPhoto to make a tiny additional edit - just a touch with the "Sharpen" brush or similar (See: Edit your photos)
- and then share this edited photo to the camera roll and copy it to your mac. Does the effect now stay?
no, i meant that iphoto in my mac is not as updated as yours, but when i ask to update the software it doesn't give a newer version.
That I understood. I just wanted to say, that you cannot iPhoto beyond the version you are having, without upgrading to a newer version of MacOS X. YOu would have to upgrade to Mavericks, to be able to get a newer iPhoto.
i don't have iphoto in my iphone, i looked on the app store, and it needs to be purchased. do you think that i should buy it and try? is it better to have it?
It is a nice addition to have on the iPhone, if you want to organize your photos a bit. You can tag them with keywords and have advanced editing tools. But it is not strictly necessary to have. See here, what it can do:
I'll look more into the photostreaming and icloud,
To get the most out of iCloud, you would need to upgrade the system to Mavericks, but you need to check, if it would not cause problems to your workflow. Make sure, all applications your are relying on are still compatible or can be updated to work after a system upgrade.
When you import from your iPhone by connecting the phone to a USB port, you import the photos from the camera roll as the photos have originally been taken. After editing the photos and applying the filters save or share the edited photo to the Camera Roll. Then the edits will be transferred. The same holds, when you transfer the photos using the Photo Stream. You have to share the edited version to the Camera roll, so it will upload to the Photo Stream.
Thank you Léonie.
The camera roll in my iphone saves the pictures as already modified because I use the filters of the camera. If I take the picture with Istagram or else, it saves it in a different folder, and then by importing on the mac there is no problems. But I cannot solve the problem of the filters of the camera... or maybe I didn't understand what you mean.... what exactly am I supposed to do? Thank you sooooo much for your help!
The camera roll in my iphone saves the pictures as already modified because I use the filters of the camera.
The images with the filters applied look modified to you, but the camera roll holds the original. Save a copy of the modified image to the camera roll.
How are you transferring to your mac? Photo Stream or USB?
I have been testing with my iPone, LizaFiona, and I cannot reproduce any longer what I told you. Are we using the same versions?
iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1, iPhoto 9.5.1
Right now, any photo I am taking with the Camera and with Camera Filters applied, will transfer with the filters applied, when I copy by USB. I used to have to save a copy to the camera roll, but that is no longer necessary. All filters are transfering just fine. What is your iPhoto version and MacOS X version?
No, I'm using iphone 4s, iOS 7.1, iphoto 9.4.3, MacOS X 10.7.5
I tried to update iphoto but i didn't manage, and I tried again importing pictures and it still doesn't reconise the filters from the camera in the iphone
any other ideas?

I'll look more into the photostreaming and icloud, i never had much time to look into the way it works, so i never started it.
thank you so much for your help. i really don't how you manage to make sense to it.... :-)
Previously, you could save an edited version to the Camera Roll, and any photo saved to the Camera Roll would immediately upload to Photo Stream. Now you can copy a photo, but I do not see an option to duplicate or save.
Same problem with iOS 8, iPhoto 9.6 and iPhone 6 (transfer over USB): iPhone photo edits are not transfered to iPhoto, only the original photos are transfered. I also did not find a way to copy/export the edited photos to the camera roll. I do not want to have to send me an e-mail with edited photos.
Apparently apple is aware of it and finds it OK. I find that the idea of keeping the originals when transfering to iPhoto is great but the idea of not transfering the edits along is totally stupid...
Has anyone found a workaround?
Hello all... Apparently Apple engineers are aware of this but they says they have no idea why. I'll give you a brief synapse of my iPhone 6+ and Photo, iPhoto and Image Capture headache. (I have two open support cases so yes I have gone through the correct channels to try to find a solution.)
I went to Italy this past spring and took about 2k photos. About 400 of them were on B&W. Well wasn't i surprised when I hooked them to my iMac via a USB that all of them were in color. And since Photos does not name the img number under the photo anymore searching for all the B&W and editing them to turn on the filter was a definite no go for me. I contacted Apple Care Support and the accumulation of many hours on the phone and emails and remote contacts they were convinced that it was not the phone and IOS 9 would fix the problem. Fast forward to Wednesday of this week when IOS 9 came out. Stripped my iPhone, installed IOS 9 as new and low and behold - still no joy. Call Apple Care and they review all the engineering notes and they tell me I need a new phone. Pick it up last evening and I was told to try a lot of different shots and filters. Brought it home, plugged it in and STILL no joy.
So there is a MAJOR problem with filters on the iPhone 6+. iPhone 6 does not have this problem (tested my neighbors). iPhone 5s and 4 did not have this problem because I went back to all my other vacations and all the filters were transferred as part of the stream.
Taking a photo and having to save it on the iPhone with the filter is NOT a solution. Neither is emailing them to your Macs because all of them are not names "FullSizeRender.img".
I still love Apple but this problem and the disaster program called Photos is quite disappointing.
Time to call Apple Care again.
USB
Before iOS8 the filtered photos would upload to photostream and import into Aperture / iPhoto without a problem.
Now it doesn't.
Clearly something changed with the new OS.
Your comments seem to have nothing to do with iPhoto for Mac and these phones, he subject of this thread.. Perhaps you need to post one the Photos forum.
