What can i use to connect my imac to my desktop but use my imac as a monitor

If that configuration supports Target Display mode, use it. If not, use a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network.

I still dont get it what am i supposed to buy to connect my dektop to my imac?
Physically, you need a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt cable for Target Display mode, or an Ethernet cable for setting up a network; you can use wireless instead, but it will likely be slower. The cost, if any, for ScreenRecycler or VNC software varies.

just to make sure, I have a windows dektop, so i need to get the thunderbolt card such as
ASUS ThunderboltEX II Expansion Card
and i connect it to my motherboard and buy the wire and connect from the card to the imac and press command f2 it will autimatically transfer me to my windows desktop but still on my i mac monitor?
