I have disabled the texts coming into the imessage on my mac. However, I can't get rid of the icon. I don't want everyone who use the desktop to see my texts. Please help me remove the icon from the tool bar. Thanks

Drag the icon out of the dock toward the middle of the screen.
Nope, doesn't work. Goes right back to the dock.
What OS version are you using? iMessages was rebranded Messages a while back so which is it?
Assuming Messages and the tool bar you want to remove it from is the Dock dragging it out until it turns into a puff of smoke should work just make sure Messages isn't running.
If that fails try right clicking the icon in the Dock and selecting Remove from Dock
But again you need to make sure Messages is not running.
All open applications show in the dock.
Try right-clicking (control-click) on the icon and Quit.
