Hello. I was having this issue also with an iTunes installation on Windows 10 - 64 bit.

(It was being caused by a problem with Apple Software Update not being able to be Uninstalled, Changed, OR Repaired. I deleted items from the registry regarding iTunes6464.msi, did 3rd party cleans and uninstalls, registry cleans and fixes; nothing worked.)

Eventually, the thing that DID work was to to use an extractor package (like 7zip) on the download package (iTunes6464Setup), and repair or reinstall every program element individually (AppleApplicationSupport64, AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464, etc,) EXCEPT for Apple Software Update. If you try to install ASU from the individual program .msi, you will still get the error message.

To do this:
Download 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) and install it. (This is if you don't have an archive viewer already.)
Go to your downloads folder that you used to store iTunes6464Setup.

Right click on the iTunes6464Setup program; select 7zip -> Open Archive.
A new window will open showing you the program install elements.

The big one is iTunes64.msi. You should be able to get that one to install correctly, which will actually make iTunes useable.

Hope that helps you.

Try repairing and then removing Apple Software Update from the programs and features control panel.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

And the links you showed one of the parts to un-install is "apple software update" and when that won't UNINSTALL, the answer can't be to uninstall it...

To which I replied:

I can't guarantee that it can be repaired, but that seems to have helped a lot of people. If it won't remove after repairing it try this bit from the user tip.

... the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may help with stubborn items (Windows 8.1 or lower) or use http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9779673 for a Windows 10 compatible version of the same tool.

If all else fails use the advice in the section Install missing components to reinstall the other components, ignoring the issue with Apple Software Update.

I was having this problem on Windows 10, I tried a 3rd party tool, I tried manually removing entries from the registry, and removing all the files manually, but it didn't work.

The only thing that worked was downloading this tool from Microsoft: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9779673

I uninstalled everything that said apple including bonjour and then it installed everything including iTunes.

Good luck!
