Apr 2, 2014 10:39 AM in response to BMeyrickby léonie,Looking at the TechSpecs for 13" MBPr shows a headphone port, http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/, but it does not say, that this port can double as a combination audio port.
Do you have a cable with a mini-stereo plug ready? Then just try this to find out for yourself: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3625

Apr 2, 2014 11:11 AM in response to BMeyrickby Frank Caggiano,You;ll need to input the audio via USB, Apple did away with analog audio in a while ago.
One of the cheapest solutions is the Griffin Technology iMic USB Audio Device (at amazon). Works well for most consumer level recording. It has both a line in and mic in inputs.

Apr 2, 2014 12:20 PM in response to Frank Caggianoby léonie,Thanks for confirming the problem with the headphone port, Frank. My 17" MBPs still have a line-in port.
I am using the iMic myself if I need an additional line-in for recording vinyl records or similar, but for playing a a guitar it might be problematic because of latency.
HangTime reported to have encountered up to half a second of latency with the iMic.
See Re: How can I play my electric guitar through GB?
For my electric guitar I am using the Apogee Jam, but other not quite so expensive audio interfaces might do as well.

That's not true. They did away the proper label on that jack. It functions as an Input OR Output. You just can't use both at the same time. It is no called an "Audio Port". The headphone label might be a bit misleading.
Here is a screenshot of the System Preferences - Sound
Just use the right cable and plug it into your compuer. Make sure to adjust the level properly.
Hope that helps

Apr 3, 2014 2:56 PM in response to Edgarby Frank Caggiano,The dual port was discontinued in 2012. On systems built after that you have to go USB for input.

Apr 3, 2014 3:15 PM in response to Frank Caggianoby Edgar,You are right (I learned something new today ). Guess I'm holding on to my 2011 MacBook for a while.
It seems that this a general strategy at Apple. Even the new MacPros don't have a Line-In jack anymore.
