Recording through the jack input from a Numark Mixer (DJ)

I want to record a mix and have a phono to jack cable that fits from the mixer to the mac and ive heard that you can use the jack input as a recording device.

I have watched videos on it and they say that a drop down menu should be there to pick the input, but i cant find the drop down menu in the sound preferences.
