Q: Multiple Displays in OS X Mavericks

Can I use my MacBook Pro (mid 2010's model) to connect to my TV using AppleTV 2 with the new OS X Mavericks, or is my computer too old?? I am debating the purchase of an AppleTV since I hate using an HDMI cable with an adapter to screen share with my TV/larger display.

Thanks for any responses!
