SATA limiting SSD Speed on MacBook Pro early 2011?

Hi and thanks for reading.

Some friends of mine, while talking about my plan to upgrade my MacBook Pro Early 2011 to a SSD, told me that maybe my SATA can limit the SSD transfer speed to 250 MB/s instead of their 500MB/s speed or similar... is that true? How can I check what SATA version is my MacBook Pro 13'' Early 2011?

Many thanks, cheers.

Yes, that is correct. Your model's HD interface is SATA 6.0 Gb/s. However, if you replace the optical drive that may not be the case. According to general specs that port is either 3.0 or 6.0 Gb/s. I don't know exactly what that means, so if you replace the optical drive you may or may not get 6.0 Gb/s.
