iTunes not loading - Windows XP

I purchased a Compaq PC which had iTunes installed already and Windows XP. However, when Quicktime wanted to do an update and it did so, iTunes no longer loads.

I've clicked on it on the desktop, quicklaunch, program list, etc and the mouse pointer shows the timer but then nothing happens at all.

On a fresh install of my PC it runs fine, but when I update it or Quicktime, it stops working. I've just installed my computer for the 4th time since buying it (Nearly 2 years old) as I like to backup files and start again every few months and I would like to use iTunes with some live feeds I listen to.

Even downloading iTunes again and unistalling the one on my comuter does nothing, or removing quick time and re-installing it.

Same problem here, and I've had it since iTunes upgraded to version 6.0.

Fortunately I have been able to pick up upgrades from CDs delivered with magazines such as Clickx, but that is not always very fast.

Now with iTunes 7, I am still unable to download the upgrade.

I have disabled pop-up blockers from Norton, I have even tried to disable Norton all-together. No luck.

Can anyone let me know where I can define the Apple download URL as a "trusted" site ?

P.S. What is also frustrating me is that no-where on any of the Apple websites there is an e-mail address to be found on which we (users) can ask for support on these issues. In the old days (before OS 9), Apple had a very open and accessible support organization, but that is no longer the case.

P.P.S. Ironically I do get a "thank you for downloading new iTunes" everytime (within 2 seconds of clicking the Download button).
