On my desktop I had three different accounts yet after updating to MAVERICKS all files on two other accounts disappeared, where the files went?
On the main account, however the files are there. What happened?
Any chance to retrieve them? Thank you

I have a similar problem, some files on my only one account are gone, most applications are gone and System Preferences is gone as well, I can't open it up. Luckily that Finder is still there. All what I can do now is checking which files are missing, backup the files to external drive and prepare to reinstall the Mac.
Do you have a backup you can restore from?
